Is Stretch Therapy the same as yoga? Or Pilates?

Stretch Therapy has some similarities, using some of the major yoga poses. However, added to the system are techniques from dance, gymnastics, & traditional Japanese exercise forms, where many new techniques and positions have been designed.  The goal of yoga is enlightenment & incorporates traditional asanas (poses) as well as meditation, cleansing and special breathing techniques. The goal of Stretch Therapy is more modest: to increase range of movement, to free the body from pain & to optimize its functions, via targeting the tight fascial lines unique to the individual.

Can anyone participate in a stretch therapy class?

Technically yes. However, it does depend on your health, any treatments you are receiving, injuries or existing pain.  It is recommended that you discuss your situation with your health care practitioner before you start the program.  We have participants ranging from early teens to mid eighties who have gained increased flexibility and lowered risk of injury.

Can I stretch whilst I am pregnant?

Yes. However, it is advisable to discuss with your health care practitioner before commencing a program.
